New Born Babies - doubts

The breast-fed child passes frequent, curdy, semi-solid motions. Such motions are not uncommon after every feed in some infants. This is quite normal. As long as the baby is feeding well, sleeping adequately and gaining weight, there is no need to be alarmed about the number of stool. Hiccups are common among newborns. They might sound alarming to grown ups, but they are quite harmless. They are due to the baby swallowing air at feeding time. This irritates the diaphragm, causing hiccups.

Common Doubts about new Born babies

The shape of a baby's head varies a great deal. This is due to the baby forcing its way out of your body. There is sometimes a uniform swelling (called caput), but this usually disappears in two or three days. However, if the swelling is localized on one side of the head and is confined to the limits of the bone, it is due to the blood collecting on the outer surface of the skull bone. This is called Cephal-Haematoma and usually disappears in about 4-6 weeks. Cephal Haematoma 'causes no problems, but if it keeps increasing in size, or feels hot and appears painful to the baby, you can consult your family doctor.)

The two soft openings you can feel on the top of the baby's head are the fontanelles, or "soft spots". The front fontanelle, located on the top of the head, is a diamond¬shaped opening which usually closes by the time Baby is about one and a half years. The rear fontanelle is a very small opening at the back of the head. This will close in about three months.
